Making sure that child care providers are paid fairly will not only protect our communities from harmful federal actions and threats, but will also have an immediate positive impact on all Californians.
On June 13, 2025, the California Legislature voted and passed its joint state budget proposal. (SB 101/AB 101). Despite the many verbal commitments made during budget hearings these past five months, the Legislature does NOT include fair pay for child care providers.
This upholds a racist policy and it is unacceptable.
But, our fight is not over.
Legislative leaders are negotiating with Governor Newsom right now to develop the final 2025-26 state budget.
It’s time to send a very loud and clear message to our state leaders – WE NEED FAIR PAY FOR CHILD CARE PROVIDERS NOW.

Tell Governor Newsom and the Legislature:
- Increase child care providers pay starting July 1, 2025;
- Put fair pay for child care providers in state law now;
- Keep your promise to fund the 77,000 new affordable child care spaces by 2028 (based on state law);
- Work with Child Care Providers United to develop a timeline to fully fund and implement fair pay as soon as possible; and,
- Close corporate tax loopholes and end inequitable tax breaks to protect life-changing programs like affordable child care and Medi-Cal.
Our state leaders must act boldly to pass a state budget that raises revenues, funds vital child care commitments, and protects targeted communities from harmful federal actions.
