Mary Gutierrez-Hunter was the Strategic Campaigns Director at SEIU CA State Council, which serves as the political and legislative arm for over 700,000 California workers. In her role, she lead the work to meet the unions’ vision of a strong early care and education system, that works for children, families, and child care providers. Ms. Gutierrez-Hunter joined the Child Care Law Center Board of Directors in 2016.
Mary passed away Thursday, August 28, 2025. Her legacy will live in on in the child care world and we will continue to fight for what she believed in.
